The AAVF is honoured to be invited by the Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) to participate at the Fifth International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly, to be held on 11-12 February 2020 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.

 

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly brings together stakeholders, including high-level government officials, representatives of international organisations, foundations, the private sector, and civil society, as well as Women scientific & technology experts and girls in science advocates from around the world.

Science = Scientia, in Latin meaning, Skills, Awareness, Expertise – “Knowledge” Thus, Science is an equivalent to progress.

​

African Youth in Science should be motivated, promoted as they contribute to Africa’s growing economy.

​

The African Association for Vertical Farming (AAVF) strongly advocates Vertical Farming Technologies in Africa to respond to the advanced demands of the Millenniums wishing to move forward with the Sciences and Technologies put forward in other continents.

 

Unfortunately, poverty levels in Africa are increasing, environmental degradation is worsening; the ecosystem has become more fragile; the population is increasing; sustainability has been compromised and livelihoods are been threatened.

 

The African Association for Vertical Farming (AAVF) is using its limited resources to drive Technology through education and leveraging skills and unveiling potentials through InnovativeVolunterism with the youth of Africa.

 

As we do this, we focus on understanding the barriers for technological implementation, adoption, and the use of science and technology for decision making, education and wealth creation among the youth of Africa. This is viewed with positivity as it is used to alleviate societal and environmental pressures.

 

The increasing number of people in African countries requires new strategies to supply the necessary food with limited land and decreasing resources. This will become more challenging unless innovative solutions for growing and distributing food are considered.

 

Technological and educational programmes are been introduced and work in partnership with other stakeholders that aim to foster the sustainable growth of the vertical farming industry through education and collaboration.

 

The AAVF is thus promoting and facilitating Vertical Farming solutions in Africa for socio-economic sustainable development.
